In the late eighties, following much concern over
the standard of major repairing in the UK, a working group was formed firstly to
consider the current British Standard for tyre repair and secondly to decide how
the industry could develop the level of professionalism in this area of
business.
From this working group the NTDA’s first Tyre
Advisory Repair Group was formed and it has continued to the present day as the
foremost expert body on the subject of tyre repairing.
The Group's active committee comprises
representatives from the major repair trade itself, tyre retailers and
representatives from the leading suppliers of tyre repair materials. It also has
representation from other industry bodies such as the RMA and BSI.
The Group's main function is to organise, control
and develop the country's best major tyre repairers into a professional and
reputable body. It provides a link for the industry to:
Organisations such as the BSI and a united voice to the Department of Transport
and the trade press.
In recent years the Group has played a significant
role in the development of BSAU159, the British Standard for Tyre Repairs and
the majority of members of the BSI Working Group which carried out the latest
review were also members of the Repair Group.
